Iran and West to reach nuclear agreement soon

May 4, 2014 at 5:08 pm

Israel foresees a nuclear agreement between Iran and the G6, Haaretz newspaper said Sunday.

According to a senior Israeli official quoted by Haaretz, a permanent agreement on Iran’s nuclear program is likely to be reached soon. Based on these expectations, the US National Security Advisor Susan Rice will head to Tel Aviv on Thursday for talks with the Israelis regarding this issue and to brief the Israeli government on the nature of communications between the West and Iran.

Rice, according to the same source, will visit Palestinian territories for the first time since she assumed her post, accompanied by senior US government officials. She is scheduled to hold talks with an Israeli delegation led by the Israeli National Security Advisor Yossi Kohen. She is also scheduled to meet with the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

According to Haaretz, Rice’s visit to Tel Aviv comes few days before the resumption of the final round of negotiations between Iran and the West, scheduled to start on May 13 and to last for four days. It is expected that the negotiations will result in Iran’s agreement to significantly cut down its nuclear program.

The negotiations aim at enhancing US-Israeli coordination on Iran prior to the planned agreement.

In the same context, Haaretz revealed that the Israeli National Security Advisor has recently visited Beijing to discuss the Iranian issue with the Chinese government.
