Nasser al-Qudwa, the nephew of the late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, has resigned from the Fatah Central Committee in protest against “some of the Palestinian National Council (PNC) meeting results”.

A source in al-Qudwa’s office told Turkey’s Anadolu news agency that he had resigned from the movement’s Central Committee but would remain a member of Fatah.

Palestinian Fatah movement is led by Palestinian Authority President, Mahmoud Abbas.

It is not yet confirmed whether Fatah has accepted or rejected al-Qudwa’s resignation.

OPINION: The PNC meeting was ‘much ado about nothing’

The PNC concluded its meeting on Friday with the re-election of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas as Chairman of its Executive Committee.

Major Palestinian parties including Hamas, Islamic Jihad and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) all boycotted the meetings, saying it “will strengthen the state of division”.
