US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s election pledge to annex the West Bank will not harm the US’ “deal of the century”.

Asked if he thought Netanyahu’s pledge to annex the West Bank would harm the “deal of the century”, Pompeo replied “I do not think so”.

Pompeo told CNN that the US peace plan will present a different model from the ones that have been used.

The US official explained that over the past 40 years, there have been many ideas, however none of them have achieved peace between Israelis and Palestinians, adding that the administration of US President Donald Trump wants a better life for both Israelis and Palestinians.

The US said last week that it plans to announce its long-awaited “deal of the century” after newly re-elected Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has formed a ruling coalition.
