Nobel laureate donates prize to martyrs' charity

Nobel Peace prize winner Tawakkol Karman, has donated her cash prize to a charitable institution which works with the families and victims of the Yemeni Arab Spring revolution. The 2011 Nobel laureate confirmed on her Facebook page that she has decided to donate the $500,000 prize money to the charity.

“I have waited for this to dedicate the most precious of what I own to the greatest of those whom I have ever loved,” said Karman.

Hundreds of Yemeni people were martyred and thousands were wounded during what has, ironically given the casualty levels, been dubbed “the Peaceful Revolution” which ousted President Ali Abdullah Saleh in 2011.
