Egypt sentences 683 Morsi supporters to death, including Brotherhood’s top leader

Some 683 supporters of ousted Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi have been sentenced to death, the Minya Criminal Court ruled today.

Judicial and security sources said the court transferred documents relating to the cases of the 683 prisoners, including the Supreme Guide of the Muslim Brotherhood Mohammed Badie, to the Grand Mufti who must review the verdicts.

The court also sentenced a further 37 activists to death while 491 were sentenced to life imprisonment.

The group’s papers were previously referred to the Mufti to get his view on the executions.
