August 30, 2016 at 10:16 am

The Council of Anbar Province in Iraq dismissed Governor Suhaib Al-Rawi on Monday over alleged financial and administrative corruption allegations. Council member Arkan Khalf Al-Tarmouz told Anadolu news agency that an emergency session was held on Monday in the town of Khalidiyah, east of Ramadi, for a vote of no confidence in the governor.

As many as 19 of the council’s 30 members who attended the session voted in favour of the governor’s dismissal. “The vote came after the Council held a session on Sunday, in which it had questioned the governor in absentia,” explained Tarmouz.

He added that Al-Rawi is accused of 36 new accounts of financial and administrative corruption in addition to 61 old charges, as well as legal and administrative irregularities since taking office at the end of last year.

Anadolu was unable to get a comment from the governor.
