Violent clashes in Egypt

Violent clashes broke out in Egypt today between protesters demanding an end to the rising cost of living in the country and security forces.

Egyptians were taking part in what has become to be known as the “revolution of the poor” in Giza.

Security used tear gas to disperse the protesters causing them to flee.

A boy, who is under the age of 16, was arrested after he held up a peace sign.

Ahead of the protests, organisers launched the Arabic hashtag #Come_let’s_free_Egypt.

Over the last couple of days, raids were carried out in downtown Cairo in an attempt to arrest “terrorists”. Social media users said the raids targeted them specifically, with officials examining their computers and their mobile phones.
