The deputy head of Hamas’ political bureau, Moussa Abu Marzouk, said the Palestinian factions meeting in Moscow focused on political affairs and Russia’s role in the region and its support for Palestinian rights.

Abu Marzouk said in a press statement published on the movement’s website yesterday evening that the factions meetings with the Russians had reviewed Moscow’s role in supporting the Palestinian people in the face of illegal Israeli settlements and the Judaisation of Palestinian sites.

The Hamas chief also said that the meetings discussed incoming US President Donald Trump’s pledge to transfer his country’s embassy to Jerusalem, though without mentioning what the results of those discussions were.

“The meeting also addressed the Russian role at the international level, especially that Moscow is a member of the international Quartet [for Middle East Peace], which imposed the siege on [Gaza],” he added.

Abu Marzouk said the meetings also addressed the results of the Palestinian National Council Preparatory Committee meetings on the Palestinian unity and building the Palestinian institutions, especially the Palestinian National Council and the government of national unity.
