Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi said Saudi Arabia has pledged $10 billion to support the war-torn country’s economy.

Hadi said the kingdom allocated $10 billion “for the reconstruction of liberated provinces, including $2 billion as a deposit in the central bank to shore up the [Yemeni] riyal.”

He called on his government to focus on electricity, water, health, education, roads and communications.

Hadi visited Saudi last week to discuss operations to restore control over the coastal strip down to the governorates of Al Hudaydah and Mbayyed.

Yemen has been locked in a bitter war between the government, which has been forced to relocate to the southern city of Aden, after the capital, Sana’a, was captured by Houthis and forces loyal to former President Ali Abdullah Saleh.
