In the wake of announcing the elections’ results, the interior ministry imposed strict and wide security measures in order to prevent unlicensed demonstrations and rallies.

Rouhani was elected president for the first time in 2013 after he received 50.7 per cent of the votes. Iranians took to the polls on Friday to elect president for the next term, with Rouhani achieving 57 per cent of the votes.
