Reports about progress in talks with hunger strikers are ‘false’

A statement by the Support and Follow-up Committee of the Dignity Strike Committee revealed yesterday that reports about progress in talks between the Israel Prison Service (IPS) and hunger strikers were “false”, Safa news agency reported.

The statement stressed that the situation of the prisoners, who have been on hunger strike for 37 days, “is very dangerous and scores of them were admitted to hospitals, put in solitary confinement and relocated from one prison to another for further restrictions.”

According to the statement, the reports about the “claimed progress” were aimed to “deceive” the Palestinian people in order to let the visit of US President Donald Trump “pass without interruptions”.

The Support and Follow-up Committee reiterated that the more than 1,600 hunger strikers are going on in their strike until the IPS meets their demands, noting that the situation is “very dangerous” and some of the hunger strikers could die at any time.

Meanwhile, the committee called for the Palestinian people and factions to take to the streets in solidarity with the hunger strikers, who have been calling for an end to the system of administrative detention, solitary confinement as well as improving their detention conditions.
