$2.9bn increase in Qatar’s trade surplus

Official Qatari data revealed that the country’s trade surplus had increased by 18.4 per cent in May, compared to the same month last year, Rassd.com reported yesterday.

The official report issued by the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics showed that Qatar’s trade balance, which represents the difference between the country’s total exports and imports, showed a surplus of 10.7 billion Qatari riyals ($2.9 billion) in May.

It also showed that the total value of exports was 20.2 billion riyals ($5.4 billion) – an increase of 7.6 per cent, compared to previous months.

The report also showed that the value of imports decreased by 0.3 per cent in May, compared to May 2016, but increased by 5.8 per cent compared to April this year.
