Algeria jails man who dangled baby from 15th floor window

An Algerian has been sentenced to two years in prison for picturing himself dangling a baby out of a window of a high-rise building to attract “likes” on Facebook.

A court sentenced the man over the weekend after he posted the disturbing pictures, taken in the capital Algiers, on social media with the caption: “1,000 likes or I will drop him,” according to Al Arabiya.

Many users reported the image to authorities and called for the man’s arrest. He was later charged with endangering the baby’s safety, police said.

The man is believed to be a relative of the child and denied putting the child’s life at risk, accusing social media users of fabricating the image, Ennahar TV reported.

“The picture was taken in a balcony with protective barriers. These were removed,” he explained.

The child’s father called on the court to forgive the man justifying his actions as just a “game”, but the judge ruled against him stating that the picture was a clear indication that the child’s life was in danger.
