An Israeli man was arrested yesterday on charges that he spray-painted swastikas on synagogues in Jerusalem, Ma’an reported.

In a statement, Israeli police spokeswoman Luba Al-Samri said swastikas were found on the walls of a synagogue in Jerusalem’s city centre yesterday.

“A worshiper who arrived at the synagogue to pray noticed that four swastikas were sprayed on the walls and he immediately alerted the police,” the statement said.

Police also noticed that someone had attempted to set fire to the place, and that four books were burned.

Similar swastikas were also daubed on the entrances to two buildings in the same neighbourhood.

A 38-year-old man was arrested, Al-Samri explained, adding that he had told interrogators that he had spray-painted similar swastikas in a neighbourhood in northern Jerusalem.
