Prominent TV host off screen for 3rd week in a row

August 22, 2017 at 2:51 pm

A prominent Egyptian TV host who is known for her support for President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi is off screen for the third week in a row. Lamis Elhadidy is still absent from her programme on a privately-owned satellite TV channel. Her daily show “Hona Al-Asema” (“Here is the capital”) is being presented by other hosts for the time being.

Elhadidy is not the only famous presenter missing from the nation’s TV screens. Veteran journalist Wael Al-Ibrashi as well as Amr Adeeb, Shaimaa Gamal, Riham Said and Said Hassanein have also been missing from the same channel lately.

Since the 2013 military coup that ousted the then President Mohamed Morsi, privately-owned satellite networks have been accused by critics and observers of promoting the policies of Al-Sisi and his government. Sisi was Egypt’s Defence Minister under Morsi and he led the coup which ousted him.
