The Russian Defence Ministry has announced that the Syrian army is about to complete the liberation of the central area of Syria. The statement from Moscow also confirmed that the Russian air force has already carried out about a thousand missions this month to support the army’s progress.

The head of the Russian General Staff’s Main Operational Directorate, General Sergei Rudskoi, explained that the Syrian government forces managed to completely defeat a large group of Daesh fighters who have been active in the central region. The army was backed up by the regime air force.

Rudskoi pointed to the speed of the operation and the effectiveness of the support fire that was provided by Syrian artillery. Russian Ka-52 attack helicopters allowed the expansion of Syrian control over the town of Al-Kadir in the countryside to the far north of Homs without any losses among government forces.

The Russian official stressed that Daesh forces in this region faced a terrible defeat. The Syrian army, meanwhile, continues to advance around 30 to 40 kilometres a day.
