PA official in Gaza to take over running of crossings

Nazmi Muhanna, general director of the Palestinian Crossing and Borders Authority, arrived in the Gaza Strip this morning in accordance with the reconciliation agreement in order to assume his duties of managing Gaza’s crossings.

Muhanna stated that the delegation has arrived in Gaza in order to implement the agreed upon terms regarding crossings in the Gaza Strip.

He also stated that he has come to Gaza on orders by President Mahmoud Abbas in order to discuss the first article of the agreement, in the hope of positive results.

Muhanna met with the Director General of the Gaza Internal Security Force, Tawfiq Abu Naeem, in order to discuss the mechanisms of handing over Gaza’s crossings, in accordance with the reconciliation agreement’s terms, signed in Cairo.

He carried out a quick tour of the Abu Khadra government complex and of the Rafah crossing traveller registration hall where humanitarian cases await access to the border crossing.

He ended his tour with a visit to the Karm Abu Salem (Karem Shalom) and Rafah crossings.
