Egypt and France signed a €30 million agreement on Wednesday to support and improve the quality of health care in the North African state.

The Egyptian Health Ministry said that Minister Ahmed Emad Eddin Rady discussed ways to cooperate with France on Wednesday with the French Ambassador in Cairo, Stefan Roumtier, especially in the health sector.

“The two discussed preparations for a protocol of cooperation to train doctors in various fields as well as an exchange of experience between officials of both countries in the health sector,” said the ministry. It was agreed that the protocol will be between the French Pasteur Research Institute and the Egyptian VACSERA company, which deals in research and vaccines.

The two countries have also signed a memorandum of understanding to develop 709 health units and some referral hospitals in five governorates in Egypt: Suez, Ismailia, Port Said, Sharqia and Dakahlia.

Relations between Egypt and France have strengthened following the coup which brought President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi to power. France is the sixth largest foreign investor in Egypt.
