Saudi detains 5,051 people on security grounds

The number of people being held by Saudi Arabia on security charges has increased to 5,051 after 24 people of different nationalities were arrested over the past 15 days.

Following the recent arrests, local newspaper Okaz said the number of detainees on security cases is now 4,419 Saudis, five Iraqis, 315 Yemenis, 204 Syrians as well as 68 Egyptians, 18 Jordanians, 13 Bahrainis and nine whose nationalities are unknown.

The newspaper pointed out that 91 people of eight nationalities were arrested over the past two months.

According to the paper, a total of 47 tonnes of explosive devices and more than 240 explosive belts, 450 grenades, 374 RPGs and 3 SAM 7 missiles have also been seized from terrorist organisations.
