Former Jordanian soldier Ahmed Daqamseh has received a death threat from an unknown person using an Israeli phone number, Anadolu reported on Sunday. Daqamseh was released from prison in the Hashemite Kingdom last year after serving 20 years of a life sentence for shooting at some Israeli girls who were “mocking” him in March 1997.

Viewed as a hero by many Jordanians, Daqamseh was released after medical examinations confirmed that he is suffering from mental disorders. Since being released, he has stayed at home and not been involved in any activism.

“I received a text message written in Hebrew on WhatsApp from an unknown number,” the former soldier explained to Anadolu. “I showed the message to a friend of mine and he told me that it was sent from an Israeli number. It says, ‘Do not think that we have forgotten you. The time to get revenge has come close’.”

Daqamseh said that he expected such threats to arise, as the Israelis “are trying to let me live in fear.” He insisted that this would not scare him.

Details of the threat have apparently been forwarded to the Jordanian intelligence and security services.
