Putting off ‘Deal of the Century’ proves Trump’s failure, says Barghouti

The General Secretary of the Palestinian National Initiative said on Sunday that putting off the “Deal of the Century” reflects US President Donald Trump’s failure to get it supported, Quds Net has reported. According to Mustafa Barghouti, the deal has “embarrassed” some of the Arab leaders who promised to normalise relations with Israel.

“The plan failed because it was based on normalising ties with Israeli without solving the Palestinian issue or at the expense of the Palestinian issue,” explained Barghouti. “Recognising Jerusalem as Israel’s capital complicated the implementation of the deal.”

It has become clear over the past year, said the Palestinian activist, that all of the members of Trump’s team are Zionists. “Some of them are more Zionist than the Israeli leaders,” he pointed out, citing US Ambassador David Friedman as an example.

However, he noted that Israel has been implementing the terms of Trump’s deal regardless of its official status, unleashing more illegal settlement activities and the annexation of Jerusalem. “This is happening now,” insisted Barghouti. It is happening on the ground, he added, even without the deal being accepted by the Palestinians.
