Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to be questioned over charges he obstructed investigations related to Case 4000, Quds Press reported yesterday.

According to Israeli TV Channel 2, state witness Nir Hefetz, who was a senior aide to the Netanyahu family, said that Netanyahu asked him to delete text messages related to Case 4000.

Netanyahu is currently being investigated over Case 4000, which revolves around facilitations offered by Netanyahu to the businessman Shaul Elovitch, the owner of the Israeli news website Wallah, in return for receiving favourable media coverage.

Hefetz said that Netanyahu asked him to delete a text message which asked Elovitch and his wife to delete the messages they received from Sarah Netanyahu and to destroy their mobiles.

Channel 2 said that police investigators had been given recordings by Hefetz and Wallah’s chief editor had also given an account.

“Leaking investigation material is the attempt to disrupt the investigations even if the leaks revolves around false charges,” Netanyahu responded. “The prime minister has acted and will continue acting lawfully. All the allegations that he disrupted the investigations are untrue.”
