Islamic Jihad said on Friday that Egypt had insisted to the Palestinian group’s delegation in Cairo that it will not close the Rafah Crossing, Safa news agency has reported. The movement added that Egypt has promised to offer more assistance to the Gaza Strip’s 2 million residents.

The Islamic Jihad delegation ended its visit to Cairo on Friday. It was in the Egyptian capital for three days at the invitation of the intelligence agency. Other Palestinian groups have also been represented in Cairo this week, including Hamas and Fatah.

The delegation was promised that the Egyptians will improve life in Gaza and increase electricity supplies to the besieged enclave. “Egypt will never allow the continuation of the siege,” they said, “and has nothing to do with all what has been reported by mass media regarding the Deal of the Century.” According to the intelligence officials, Egypt is a strong supporter of Palestinian rights.

In a formal statement, Islamic Jihad revealed that its delegation had found the Egyptians to be very interested in solving the Palestinian crises. “There is a genuine will to end the [internal] division.”

The movement pointed out that it discussed its vision for reaching a comprehensive Palestinian deal and an exit from the current situation. Partnership is essential to this vision, it explained, as are guarantees for the rights of all Palestinian citizens, regardless of their political affiliation.
