Humanitarian crisis escalates for Daraa’s displaced families

Drone footage shows the level of devastation in Syria's Daraa

The humanitarian situation is deteriorating for Syrian families displaced from Daraa who are now tantalisingly close to the Jordanian border, which is just 500 metres away.

Around 50 families — more than 200 people, mostly women and children — left their homes in and around Daraa’s eastern suburbs to flee from the bombing of the area. The Syrian regime and Russian allies have been bombing eastern Daraa since 16 June.

The families are living in tents that protect them neither from the high summer daytime temperatures nor cold at night. They also have to deal with scorpions and snakes in the semi-desert area.
