Scores of people have been killed and injured as a landslide caused by heavy rains wiped out the Sudanese village of Toqoali in South Darfur, local media reported.

Sudan had been hit by heavy rains since early June.

Toqoali, located at the top of Jebel Marra, disappeared as a result of the continuous rainfall leading to hundreds of families being displaced.

In the El-Gadarif state of eastern Sudan, 33 villages were completely or partially destroyed.

The Dandar River also burst its banks as water levels reached 15.8 metres high. The water levels caused the destruction of the dam and led to 1,000 homes collapsing.
