Accused of torturing Khashoggi to death, who is Tubaigy?

Informed Turkish sources have said that the Saudi forensic specialist Salah Al-Tubaigy is heard in recordings ordering the hit-team, who allegedly tortured and killed Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, to put on headphones to listen to music while dismembering the journalist’s body.

Sources told Al Jazeera that the operation of torturing and killing Khashoggi took only seven minutes and it was carried out inside the Saudi council’s office.

Al-Tubaigy is a forensic expert who obtained his BA in forensic evidence from King Faisal University in Saudi Arabia and an MA and PhD in forensic medicine from Glasgow University.

In 2000, he graduated from the High Saudi Institute for Security Studies with the highest marks among his colleagues.

Mixing between forensic and security sciences allowed him to take part in many security and military operations.

He headed the Saudi Commission for Forensic Medicine. He also directed several government departments, including the Scientific Council for the Forensic Specialties.

Al-Tubaigy, 47, is a colonel and a professor teaching at Nayef University for Security Sciences and he is one of three officials responsible for the Saudi Examination Committee for Medical Specialties, which grants work licenses for health workers in the kingdom.

He has published a paper about collecting DNA evidence and the dissection of the human brain, as well as co-authoring a paper about forensic evidence with his female colleague Huda Mustafa Hassan, who also graduated from Glasgow University.

Turkish security said Al-Tubaigy remained in Turkey until after most of the suspected hit-team left the country on board a private Saudi plane.
