Russia invites Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh to Moscow

Russia’s Foreign Ministry has invited Hamas Chief Ismail Haniyeh to visit Moscow, the Palestinian group said yesterday. Haniyeh received the invitation during a meeting with the Russian envoy in Gaza. The Hamas chief went on to thank Russia for its invitation and the efforts it exerted to support the Palestinian cause. No details have been revealed about whether Haniyeh will be accepting the invitation and travelling to Moscow. A Hamas delegation, headed by deputy head of the political bureau, Mousa Abu Marzouk, visited Moscow in September. It met with Mikhail Bogdanov, Putin’s envoy to the Middle East and Africa, the Russian deputy foreign minister, and other foreign ministry officials.
