Turkey’s AKP says Saudi not cooperating with Khashoggi case

A spokesman for Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), Omer Celik, said Monday that Saudi Arabia has not been cooperative on the murder case of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

Celik told reporters in Turkish capital Ankara that Turkey attaches importance to the visit of Dr. Agnes Callamard, the UN Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions to his country who has been tasked with investigating Khashoggi’s murder case.

The spokesman stressed that the Turkish authorities continue to investigate the killing of Khashoggi with transparency, noting that Saudi officials have not yet responded to calls for cooperation in this regard.

Celik added that the UN rapporteur’s report confirmed the involvement of Saudi government officials in the pre-planned, brutal crime which took place at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on 2 October.
