An Algerian man casts his vote during the presidential election on December 12, 2019 at a polling station in Algiers. - Five candidates are running in Algeria's presidential election to replace ousted Algerian president Abdelaziz Bouteflika, the country's election authority said Saturday, amid widespread protests against the vote. Former premiers Ali Benflis and Abdelmadjid Tebboune are considered front-runners in an election opposed by the mass protest movement that alongside the army forced Bouteflika to resign in April after 20 years in power. No opinion polls have been published but observers expect an extremely low turnout nationwide after months of demonstrations opposing the vote.
