  • French President Nicholas Sarkozy was overheard calling Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, 'a liar'. In an extraordinary exchange with none other than US President Barak Obama, Sarkozy was heard stating, 'I cannot bear [Netanyahu], he's a liar' to which Obama replied: 'You may be fed up of him, but me, I have to deal with him every day!'

The exchange reflects the 'the increasing contempt and frustration many world leaders feel for Netanyahu and the wavering position of the Israeli government in the international arena'.

As Election Day draws closer for Obama, he has made efforts to woo the Israeli lobby in the US, although apparently quite critical of Israel behind closed doors. US Senator John McCain criticized their comments and suggested that Obama's comments are indicative of the current administration's policy towards Israel.

One YnetNews Commentator suggested that these double standards of world leaders were not conducive to helping solve anything and that the 'embarrassing political hypocrisy' will only demonize the Israeli leadership further.
