Official military sources have confirmed that Israeli warplanes bombed two buildings in the centre of the Gaza Strip early on Sunday morning. Officers took the decision to destroy the buildings even though they were aware that they housed the offices of local, Arab and international media organisations.

The details were contained in a report on Hebrew Radio, which said that the upper floors of the Shawa and Shorouq buildings in Gaza City were targeted. The buildings are home to a number of media organisations, including Quds TV, Manar, Alaqsa and Alarabia, as well as the BBC and Sky News. "The bombs," said Hebrew radio, "targeted the broadcast antennas of some TV channels." It stressed that the air raids will continue.

Six journalists were injured during the attack, some seriously; one has had his leg amputated.
