120 houses destroyed completely during Israeli attack on GazaThe Head of Infrastructure and Camp Improvements at the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) has confirmed that 120 homes were destroyed completely during the recent Israeli attack on the Gaza Strip. Engineer Munir Manneh added that 9,000 homes were damaged during the offensive.

In a media statement, Manneh said that UNRWA has acted swiftly to assess the damage. Thirty-five teams of engineers have been formed to prepare repair estimates for presentation to donor countries.

The owners of homes which were completely destroyed, he said, will be given $1,500 a year to help towards the rent of temporary accommodation. They will also be provided with tools, clothes and some basic needs.

The intention is to rebuild such homes. The reconstruction and repairs will be coordinated with Gaza's Ministry of Works and Housing to avoid duplication of both work and social benefits and assistance.

Almost 180 people, most of them civilians, were killed during Israel's bombing offensive last month. Around 1,400 others were wounded. Many homes, businesses and public buildings were damaged or destroyed.
