Britain and Iran exchange chargé d'affaires to mend diplomatic ties

British Foreign Secretary William Hague said that London and Tehran are exchanging chargé d’affaires in a move to rebuild their diplomatic ties.

Hague explained on Tuesday that, “the two countries [have] agreed to exchange non-resident chargé d’ affaires who will work to rebuild bilateral ties and open embassies.”

Relations between London and Tehran had deteriorated due to differences over Iran’s nuclear programme.

In late 2011, Britain cut diplomatic relations with Iran following an attack against its embassy in Tehran. Earlier, the government in Tehran had accused Britain of involvement in the terrorist attack that killed Iranian nuclear physicist Majid Shahriari in 2010.
