The European Union’s Foreign Policy chief has condemned the state of emergency announced by the Egyptian regime on Wednesday, as it leads Egypt to an uncertain future. “It could have been different if all political parties were engaged in the political process,” Cathy Ashton added. She expressed her condolences to the families of the dead and wounded.
It has emerged that the EU had agreed a proposal with the Muslim Brotherhood to end the impasse “several hours” before the soldiers and police started the massacre in Cairo. According to EU representative Bernardino Leon, the deal was rejected by the coup leadership.
The Arabic Committee for Human Rights in the Arab League is following up the on-going incidents in Egypt. The organisation backed the coup last month.
