The Geneva II conference on Syria is impossible to convene, according to the opposition’s representative in Paris, Monther Makhous.
Makhous noted that while international parties are seeking to hold talks between the opposition and the Syrian regime, the Syrian opposition demands the complete removal of the regime.
Meanwhile, the Syrian National Coalition severely criticised the Arab League as well as the UN envoy to Syria, Lakhdar Brahimi, who blames the coalition for the problems in finalising the conference.
In a statement, the coalition suggested that it was Brahimi himself who had failed to reach an appropriate framework for carrying out the conference, saying that: “The core of Brahimi’s latest efforts was concentrated on his discussions with members of the opposition who already have good relations with Bashar Al-Assad and his government.”
The statement added that while these discussions were taking place, Syria witnessed increased military escalations in the outskirts of Damascus, resulting is mass killings and extensive damages, as well as a deepening of the humanitarian crisis.
