Thousands of flights heading to Egypt cancelled

A number of Finnish, Swedish, Danish and Norwegian tour companies have cancelled about 60,000 tourist flights to Egypt from now until next April, the Associated Press reported.

The newswire said that the companies have also withdrawn hundreds of tourists from Egypt, as well as suspended any remaining flights planned ahead of this tourism season, which extends until October.

The companies carried out this step based on directions from their governments, which asked their citizens not to travel to Egypt because of the current turmoil following the military coup unless it is absolutely necessary.
