Al Masri: "Bernard Kouchner's determination to visit Gaza is the beginning to correct Western approach to Hamas"

A member of the Palestinian Parliament and leader of the Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas, Mushir Al-Masri, regards the insistence of French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner to visit Gaza as a positive step. By recognising the realities on the ground without overlooking them, the French and the West are correcting their position in the right direction.

In a media disclosure today (Wednesday), Al Masri explained the importance of the proposed trip which has been temporarily cancelled and will include a visit to Israel, Syria, the West Bank and Gaza and Syria as part of a trip to the region.

This reflects a realisation on the part of the French and Europeans that overlooking the realities on the ground will be counter-productive. He said “there is no doubt that this step reflects the beginning of a French awareness and that Hamas has become a fundamental factor in the equation that is not possible to neglect” and this conviction no doubt will be reflected sooner or later in Western policies with the region.
