UN not ready to announce date for Geneva II conference

A United Nations source has said that Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is not yet ready to announce a date for the Geneva II conference on Syria. Ban’s spokesman Martin Nesirky told Interfax agency that the Secretary-General will announce the date “when he is ready”.

Russia denied media claims that an agreement has been reached between Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry to convene Geneva II on December 12.

Meanwhile, media sources have reported that the UN special envoy to Syria, Lakhdar Brahimi, may announce the conference date after the representatives of Russia, the US and the UN meet on 25 November.
