US gives Egypt military aid worth $584m

The US government has given Egypt $584 million in military aid out of a total expected annual amount of $1.3 billion. The payment has been made by the administration in Washington even though it is currently being reconsidered due to the “coup” and repression which has occurred in Egypt since the beginning of July.

A spokeswoman for the US State Department, Jennifer Bsaki, explained that the government is “continuously monitoring” how US financial aid is being used.
