The Egyptian coup authorities have today ordered the Turkish ambassador to leave the country saying that Turkey has blatantly interfered in Egypt’s internal affairs, a foreign ministry statement said.
The statement affirmed that the coup government has informed the Turkish ambassador that “his presence in Egypt is no longer desirable.”
According to the statement, the Egyptian military regime has decided to downgrade its political relations with Turkey.
The worsening relations between the two countries have come amid strong condemnation by Turkey’s Prime Minister Recep Tayyip of the removal of Egypt’s first ever democratically elected civilian president.
Erdogan, it would be recalled, was the first leader to raise the sign of the Rabaa Al-Adawiyya massacre, which was perpetrated on August 14; more than 1,000 anti-coup Egyptians were killed, and thousands more were wounded and arrested.
