Egyptian security forces release young woman in a wheelchair

Egypt’s security forces have released Jihad Al-Khayat, a first year student in the Faculty of Islamic Studies at Al-Azhar University in Cairo.

Jihad arrived at her home in a wheelchair due to poor state of health as a result of what is alleged to have been brutal torture by security officers, who broke her right arm and left leg. Ms Al-Khayat was in good health when she was detained by the security forces. The state prosecution service agreed to free her on bail of five thousand Egyptian pounds, after detaining her for nearly two months.
