Al-Jawwadi: Muslim Brotherhood is the 'soul' of Egypt

Speaking to Al Jazeera TV on Tuesday evening, the prominent Egyptian political historian, Mohamed Al-Jawwadi, described the Muslim Brotherhood is the “soul” of Egypt.

He warned that eradicating the movement would cause much harm to the country.

Al-Jawwadi said the Muslim Brotherhood’s success during their one year in office outmatched his expectations and that they “succeeded ten times more than I expected”.

Al-Jawwadi, who has been at times a vocal critic of Muslim Brotherhood, affirmed that movement had protected the January 25 revolution. Many of its youth, he said had safeguarded Tahrir Square from the Mubarak thugs during the crucial Battle of the Camel.

After their refusal to run for the presidency, Al-Jawwadi said that he had the honour to be one of the people who convinced the Muslim Brotherhood to contest the presidential elections.
