An Egyptian delegation of civil society activists is visiting Khartoum in solidarity with the people of Sudan against the recent bombing of a factory in the city. Israel is suspected of carrying out the attack.
The delegation’s coordinator, Dr. Jamal Abdul Salam, said that the visit has been arranged by the Union of Arab Doctors’ Foreign Relations Committee in Cairo and the Federation of Sudanese Doctors in Khartoum.
Dr. Abdul Salam said that the delegation includes representatives of a number of political parties Including Egypt’s ruling Freedom and Justice Party, El-Noor, Strong Egypt, the Building and Development Party, the Popular Current and the Social Democratic Party. The aim, he added, is to let the world know that Sudan is not standing alone in the face of external aggression, whoever the aggressor may be, and that the Egyptian people are and will remain supportive of the people of Sudan.
The Sudanese government confirmed last week that four Israeli aircraft penetrated Sudanese airspace and bombed the Yarmouk factory in the suburbs of Khartoum. Israel has made no comment.
