The Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the UAE has made a brief visit to Cairo. General Hamad Mohamed Al-Ramthi arrived in the Egyptian capital on Thursday evening.

Diplomatic sources at Cairo International Airport said that Al-Ramthi and his small delegation of officers would be meeting several Egyptian officials during a stay expected to last just a few hours. “Security issues are on the agenda,” said the sources, in a clear reference to the current unrest in Egypt.

Observers and analysts described the visit as a follow-up measure in line with the UAE”s role in the military coup against President Mohamed Morsi. They also said that the delegation wants to support coup leader General Abdul-Fattah al-Sisi.
