To mark the occasion of World Humanitarian Day, the International Committee of the Red Cross in the Gaza Strip organized an exhibition and competition for photographers about humanitarian work in all of its forms.
The Gaza Strip has been under a strict Israeli siege ever since the Palestinian Islamic Movement Hamas won the 2006 general elections in the Occupied Palestinian Territories – a form of collective punishment the international community has sanctioned.
The siege has resulted in poor public services and high rates of unemployment, a situation that inspires amateur and professional photographers alike to work at raising international awareness about the devastating effects of the siege.
Some of the photographs exhibited captured images of poor children and the humanitarian aid offered to them at schools, hospitals and homes.
Photographers in Gaza also played an important role in documenting the Israeli massacres carried out during the two harsh wars against the Gaza Strip in 2008-09 and 2012.
Dozens of photographers took part in the exhibition, which featured hundreds of expressive pictures.
