Foreign Minister says Egypt respects peace treaty as long as Israel does

Egypt’s Foreign Minister has confirmed that Egypt respects the peace treaty with Israel as long as it is respected by the other party.

Mohamed Kamel Amr told journalists that it is important to make progress with the Israel-Palestine issue. The alternative, he stressed, is that there could be further uprisings if the “frustrating” peace process is allowed to continue.

Minister Amr’s statements came during an interview on the fringe of an international conference for donor countries to Sudan’s Darfur region.
