Palestinians move into Saudi-funded apartments

Hundreds of Palestinian families have been handed the keys to new luxury apartments in the Gaza Strip city of Rafah. The new residents looked extremely pleased to move into the new buildings which have been built with funds from Saudi Arabia. They had been living in slums and, illegally, on state-owned land.

The UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) supervised the building of the compound which includes mosques, schools, parks and paved streets as well as the apartment blocks. Saudi support for such projects looks set to continue, with a second phase planned to provide accommodation for homeless people.
