Hamas: EU's routine remarks against Israeli policy not enough

Member of Hamas’ political bureau, Ezzat al-Reshq, said on Monday night that the remarks by the head of the EU’s foreign policy, Catherine Ashton, regarding the Palestinian hunger strikers are not enough.

Writing on his facebook page, Al Reshq said that Palestinian prisoners are enduring dire conditions in the Israeli jails, especially the hunger-strikers who have been on their hunger strike for more than 215 days.

“Ashton’s remarks do not match the suffering of the prisoners in Israeli jails, nor do they deter the organised terror they are subjected to behind bars at the hands of their Israeli jailers,” he wrote.

Al-Reshq called on the EU and international community to exert as much pressure possible on the Israeli occupation in order to expedite the “immediate release the hunger-strikers.”

He also urged them to adopt “strict measures” against the occupation to ensure that it halts the continuous violation of Palestinian prisoners’ rights.”
