Gaza celebrates the end of the hunger strikes

EXCLUSIVE PICTURES

As news broke of the Egyptian-brokered deal which has brought an end to the Palestinian prisoners’ mass hunger strike, Palestinians and their supporters worldwide heaved a collective sigh of relief. The effect was no different in Gaza, where supporters had for weeks stationed themselves in a tent in protest at the treatment meted out to prisoners in Israeli jails.

Hamas hailed the agreement as a “victory for human dignity”, and it was welcomed in the Gaza Strip by tens of thousands of supporters in the protest camp. They thanked the Palestinian people, the Egyptian intelligence service and those in the media who continued to publicise the strike in order to push the Israeli authorities to agree to a deal.
