Israeli helicopters fire into residential areas in Gaza

Israeli helicopters fired into several of southern Gaza’s residential areas on Tuesday morning. No casualties were reported.

The firing occurred following bombing sweeps by Israeli jets on Monday evening which targeted open land in the north-east of the Gaza Strip. On Sunday, one Palestinian was killed when Israeli drones fired at a crowd near Khan Younis; Sulaiman al-Qarra was a member of the military wing of the Islamic Resistance Movement.

Such attacks by the Israelis are a breach of the truce between Israel and the Palestinians mediated last week by Egypt.

Palestinian analysts suggest that the latest escalation is actually the beginning of a comprehensive war. “This happened in 2008,” said Dr. Adnan Abu Amer. “Small-scale attacks ushered in a wide-scale assault and invasion.”
